Interview with Berit Müller
Interview with Berit Müller, who is doing a dual degree at Universal Transport
Ms. Müller, you recently started your dual degree course. Please tell us something about your previous background and what brought you to Universal Transport?
I successfully graduated from high school in Unna this summer and applied for the dual degree course in Business Administration Management at the University of Economics in Paderborn. Looking for a company, I came across Universal Transport (UT), which is a well-known company in the region with a very good reputation.
Until then, I had not encountered the subject of logistics, but after initial meetings, I have realized that the tasks at UT are very exciting and versatile. The company is internationally positioned and offers work abroad as part of its studies. In addition, Universal Transport covers my tuition fees which is a great financial benefit.
I started my studies in early October. In the next three years, I will be doing my bachelor’s degree, alternately spending three months in college and three months in the company.
How was your start here at Universal Transport?
Before I started my dual degree course, I could get a taste of UT and gain first practical experience, which helped me to start the theoretical part at university. During this time, I could accompany the heavy transport of a pump dredger from Paderborn to Delbrück directly in the driver’s cab. This was exciting and helpful for my work in the office.
Here I was welcomed with open arms by my new colleagues. It’s a very nice and open working environment at Universal Transport.
Currently I support the sales department. After a short training period, I’m already able to draw offers independently and collect information about potential transports. My colleagues are always willing to give advice, support me and give me valuable tips. In the next three years, I will get to know other departments here at Universal Transport, to get an overall picture of the different departments.
Overall, so far, I am full of praise. The subject of transport and logistics has really fascinated me. In the day to day work, you are in contact with so many different people – customers as well as colleagues – and you get to know different industries.
And have you settled here in Paderborn yet?
Due to my hometown not being too far away from here, Paderborn is not completely unknown to me. Despite this proximity, I have deliberately chosen to move to Paderborn. I like the short distance between things here and Paderborn is friendly and open. I have made friends quickly and already play for a new football club – Grün-Weiß Paderborn. This was important to me because football has always been part of my life and now, above all, represents a good balance to work and study.
